Manuscripts of the epic Mahabharata, Kalhana's 12th-century chronicle Rajatarangini and Kautilya's Arthashastra, a classic work on governance, have been added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Regional Register.

The decision was made at the register's 11th session in Jakarta, Indonesia, and announced on 5 November. The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts prepared the nomination files for all three works.

The register recognises documents of lasting cultural value so they are better known and protected for future generations.
